Freedom

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves. ~ Abraham Lincoln

Belgian Mass

Today I attended my first Belgian mass thanks to my persuasive parents. The church procedures were rather similar to those in Malaysia and America. Except for the language and the plate-to-face ritual, everything were familiar. I must say it was a very pleasant and relaxing experience even though I do not understand everything. My dedicated parents were even giving money and lighting candles like they used to at home.

It was a good thing.

School’s Out

Got my certificate for completing Module-4 Dutch. I am a little disappointed of my total points. What I achieved is considered very good but I could probably get something in the 90s if I wasn’t too busy and distracted. Ah well, can’t win them all! :-P

Summer Bus Rides

Afternoon bus rides are not as pleasant as the ones in the mornings. People do not smell that nice in the summer heat and the buses do not always turn on their air conditioning or crack open the overhead ventilations.

But I still do like taking the bus. :-)

Exam Is Over!

Main written exams are done today. The only thing left is a 10-minute oral exam tomorrow morning and I’ll be done with Module-4 Dutch. Phew…I am really looking forward to the summer holidays. Especially after going to classes 6 days a week since April!

Doers

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.  ~ Leonardo da Vinci

Small Online Business

Here are some practical tips from a Zen Habits article: Beginner’s Guide To Starting A Small Online Business.

  1. Focus On What’s Important
  2. Invest In Education
  3. Ask For Help
  4. Participate In The Community
  5. Don’t Quit Your Day Job

I’m not too sure about number 5. To me, it would counteract with tip number 1. What do you think?

Resentment

When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free. ~ Catherine Ponder

Election

Today is election day in Belgium. Voting is not a right here, it is a national duty! Not voting means that you might get a fine.

Obligatory voting sounds harsh huh? But after talking to D (something about the LA riots…), I began to understand and value this move.

Belgians are kind of forced to make a choice and be held responsible for whom they choose to govern them. It is a good and democratic thing. Let’s hope that the new governing parties have better luck at running this tiny and complicated country.

Kindness To Our World

There is a sufficiency in the world for man’s need but not for man’s greed. ~ Mohandas K. Gandhi

We did a survey in class regarding environmental friendliness. I scored the highest. I didn’t know I am that green minded. I guess I am then. The logic is that the less we consume, the less we spend. Simple and logic no?
