I’m a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it. ~ Thomas Jefferson
And how true… I scored yet another 91% on my final exam in level 2 Dutch.

Oh my goodness, Michael Jackson is GONE. I cannot freaking believe this!
I’m not trying to be dramatic here, but something has been taken away from me. I have no words for this moment.
Thank you for your music Michael. Thanks for being part of my youth. Rest in peace …

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. This is carved onto the Washington D.C.’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial. I first read it when I visited America’s capital city in the mid 90′s. How true, how tragic and how memorable…
The quote crossed my mind while I pondered about this week’s happenings. I realised that GENEROSITY IS NOT FREE. There are very rare occurrences of sincere generosity in this world. People do not give freely anymore. They always want something in return. Be it profuse thanking, slave-like obedience, a show of continuous gratitude, or something minor… it is always something!
What do you think? Is there such a thing as genuine generosity? Should we give only to receive something back? Who was the idiot who started weighing his or her return of investment?

A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden. ~ Buddha

Looks like the wide spreading swine flu has reached a worrying level. WHO has just declared it the first flu pandemic of the 21st century.
I do not see people dropping like flies. But pandemic aside, I shall be postponing my trip back to Malaysia. There’s the tropical heat to think about. Temperature can hit 35 degrees during the summer months! Along with the high humidity, it will be unbearable. Then there’s the peak period airfares I want to avoid. D and I shall plan our travels for October or November.
Better be safe than sorry…

Reading about the Royal Ontario Museum’s Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibition makes me yearn for travel and to see a little more of the world. The travel restrictions impose on me by my soon-to-expire passport (damn, 5 years sure went by quickly!), my busy school schedule and the needs of the new house make this travel desire somewhat unbearable. I guess it is human nature to yearn most for what we can’t have…
Oh yeah, I’ve been to the Royal Ontario Museum in the 90s. It is a humongous museum with lots of interesting exhibitions. A little piece of my travel history that I shall cherish as long as I remain sane.

Holy crap! I just read this from Business Week:
Seven thousand hospital patients in the U.S. health-care system die every year after receiving the wrong drug or dosage, and more than a million are sickened.
In 2005, my white blood count was lower than normal. I was to get weekly blood tests over a 2-month period so that my doctor can rule out any possible blood diseases. After 8 painful blood tests, my American doctor concluded that it is nothing to worry about. She said it is probably just a weird characteristic I possess. That’s it? What the hell?!
Oh well, maybe I should be thankful that I was never hospitalized. Or worst yet …to die because of the stupidity of some medical staff. The tiny scar that I got for Lyme Disease test (long story…) shall always be a reminder.

Must you plan everything?
I get this all the time. And in complete honesty, my answer is no. But I do prefer to plan things out up front.
It’s just me. I do not believe in destiny. I do not believe in fortune tellers. I do not believe that my future is written in the stars, in tea leaves or sheep stomachs.
I believe that I hold the key to my future and have control over my luck and my fate. Pretty optimistic thinking for a semi-perfectionist huh?
Take hold of the future or the future will take hold of you. ~ Patrick Dixon, author of Futurewise.
